What are the most commonly used tools in an auto repair shop?
Including basic hand tools and the specialty tools, I’m trying to compose a list for my marketing class, we’re “opening” an auto repair shop.
Most likely, a 260pc. mechanic’s tool set will cover most of the basic hand tools you will need (1/4″, 3/8″, and 1/2″ drive SAE/metric sockets and wrenches, combination wrenches). Other basic tools you will need are screwdrivers, side cutters, needle nose pliers, vice grips, channel locks, breaker bars, ball peen hammers, a good size tool box, hack saw, pry bars, torque wrenches, impact sockets, universal joint sockets, etc.
It really depends on what you are working on. If you are working with brakes and tires, you will definitely use the 1/2″ air impact a lot for taking off and putting on lug nuts. On certain brake calipers, you will use allen sockets and torx sockets.
You wil definately need electrical tools for working on most newer vehicles like a “check engine light scanner”, test light, a computer for diagnostics, etc
There are a lot of expensive, larger machines used for special purposes like a tire machine, tire balancer, brake lathe, hydraulic press, a vehicle lift machine, an alignment machine, a large air compressor, transmisson jack, you could go on and on with a list of things you need to run an auto repair shop.

Useful tools from windows for freelancers
Hundreds of useful tools and applications are available on windows for freelancers and web workers. Windows being one the major operating systems offers a huge list of utility applications which come for Free.
1.Ditto – It is a clipboard manager that lets you save, manage, and retrieve all of the countless clipboards instantly and effectively. It offers some great features such as easy- to-use interface, search and paste previous copy entries, data is encrypted when sent over the network etc.
2.Defraggler –It is a defragmentation tool for Windows that helps in defragmenting individual files or a specific portion of a drive. It also helps in scheduling defragmentation while working or doing important stuff and can be run daily, weekly or monthly.
3.Recuva- Another application for freelancers which helps in recovering files from Windows computer, Recycle Bin, digital camera card, or MP3 player. Alos claims to recover corrupted and damaged files and brings them to the PC. It also lets its users retrieve emails as it supports Microsoft Outlook Express, Mozilla Thunderbird, or Windows Live Mail.
4.Picasa- This photo editing application by Google that allows it users in gathering and organizing the photos and share them with connections. Editing, resizing and retouching your photos, sharing them online with friends and connections.

9.7-Zip- This tool is a host of compression formats, 7-Zip lets uncompress almost any compressed data, and with the unique 7z format, files can be compressed up to 40% smaller than Zip formats.
10.Ares- It is a free open source file sharing program that enables users to share any digital file including images, audio, video, software, documents, etc. It also helps in publishing files through the Ares peer to peer network.
