Battery charging?
this isnt a silly question
HOw do batteries charge?
i know that they give positive/negative energy blah into it but how!!!! how much energy/voltage does it take to charge a AA 1.5v battery? does it just need 1.5 volts to charge it back up or are there technical things? Electricity comes from the plug thru wires into the charger then what/.what happens when the electricity goes into the charger?
Batteries maintain their electrical charge chemically in a solution (can be dry or wet) called an electrolyte. When the battery is attached to a load, a portable MP3 player for instance, the electrolyte in the battery begins to react with metal inside the battery to produce electrical current. They, in essence, corrode to produce the current. Batteries produce direct current (DC) which differs from the electrical current delivered by the outlets in your house.
When you plug a device into an outlet, it receives alternating current (AC), usually at a much higher voltage than is typical for batteries. Voltage is kind of like pressure. Higher voltage delivers more energy. When the electricity goes into the charger, the voltage is first lowered to a level that is appropriate for the battery being charged. It is then “rectified,” or converted from AC to DC. Usually after that it is “regulated” or controlled to a precise voltage and then applied to the battery.
For a battery to be charged, it must be subjected to a voltage that is slightly higher than its rating. Also, only recharge batteris that are designed to be recharged using a manufacturer approved charger. Trying to recharge regular batteries is dangerous and does not work well.

HP/Compaq Business NoteBook 6715B Battery charging problem
Today I got HP/Compaq Business NoteBook 6715B Battery for repair with the battery charging problem. It is a new model and we do not have a lot of experience with these laptops. The customer complained that the laptop will not charge the battery when it is plugged into the AC outlet.

The laptop failure symptoms:
The laptop will not turn on when I try to start it from the battery. When the laptop is turned off and plugged into the AC outlet the battery charge LED doesn’t light up. I know that the battery is not charged and the LED should light up when I plug the laptop into the AC outlet. The laptop starts fine when it is plugged. When I move the mouse over the HP Power Icon in the lower right corner, the balloon will pop up and there is a line in there: Battery Remaining: N/A.
The problem repair procedure:
You can easily fix the problem just by updating the BIOS. HP says that the BIOS version should be at least v1.30. So, go to HP/COMPAQ website and click on Downloads. Select your laptop model and find any downloads for the BIOS. In the BIOS change history you will see the description of changes.
After I updated the BIOS, The HP/Compaq Business NoteBook 6715B Battery charging problem disappeared.
