Laser Marking Steers a new course in manufacturing

As technology has advanced laser marking, have created new markets to build ever faster marking speeds and greater precision and tagging of images. Continuing the design evolution of the cavity laser beam steering and focusing optics, and computer hardware and software are expanding the role of the systems.

Managerial beam
Of the available technologies marking, laser-guided beam marking systems provide users with greater flexibility image of a fast, permanent, non-contact marking process. As the processes of increasingly automated manufacture and sale after a more frequent monitoring, laser markers are often the only method available to produce individually unique, permanent images at high speed.

Manga-directed laser marking systems usually incorporate one or CO2 or Nd: YAG laser. The CO2 laser emits continuous wave output in the far infrared (10.6 um wavelength), while the Nd: YAG laser emits near-infrared (1.06 um) in either a CW mode or pulse (1-50 kHz). The Nd: YAG is also unique in their ability to produce very short pulses of high peak power when operating in pulsed mode. For example, a typical 60-W Nd-media consumer: YAG laser can peak powers around 90 kW at the pulse rate of 1-kHz.

The optical delivery of either a single focus lens assembly or a fixed combination upcollimator and flat-field assembly of the lens. In any case, the laser beam is directed by the work surface by mirrors mounted on two high-speed, controlled galvanometers computer.

The simple assembly center offers the advantages of low cost and fewer optical components and is routinely used CO2 laser. The flat lens design field, although more expensive, remains the focal point in the beam of the mark in a more consistent image characteristics across the field marked. The overall objective of the field also produces a higher power density on the surface of the simple assembly work focused because of the short effective focal length. The design of the flat-field lens is always preferable for high precision applications and high-image quality and is usually incorporated with Nd: YAG lasers.

Both designs provide the user with a selection of lenses that provide both the diameter of the area of marking and mark the line width. The user must compensate by either increasing the laser output power and / or decrease the speed dial, which usually consists of two lenses and may be placed anywhere in the beam path before focus lens. A beam expander is often used instead of increasing the beam path approximately 10 feet in the beam is expanded through its inherent tendency to separate as it exits the resonator cavity. A spatial filter insertion into the expansion of the beam produces the best quality in the mesh systems, changing the beam through a small opening.

Nd: YAG almost always used the expansion of the beam, usually in the range 2x to 5x, due to their small initial beam diameters. spatial filters for CO2 lasers must be superficial, but the Nd: YAG can be placed inside the cavity laser itself, and different sizes are available for mode selection.

Nd: YAG laser optical lenses used as BK-7 and fused silica lens. The 1.6 um wavelength of these lasers is close enough to the visible spectrum to allow for adaptation to the standard with the optical devices AR coating right to direct the laser light.   • Most applications can be handled with normal delivery hardware (avoiding custom design).
  • The fibers are flexible and, within the constraints of the minimum radius of curvature, may follow any desired path to the workpiece.
  • The workpiece can be held stationary while the output optical fiber and move during the process making the system ideal for use with robotic manipulation.
  • The fibers make the design of time and energy sharing distribution systems beam a practical possibility. The use of these systems greatly increases the flexibility and versatility of the individual lasers allowing them to deal with several stations work or produce multiple outputs simultaneously.
